[Abstract]This article offers an account of Danwei community stratification and an analysis of the deep causes according to the relationship between government， enterprises and market by focusing on one industrial zone in city L where Danwei communities are universal based on housing policy changes. The author pointed out that the original Danwei communities without any stratification in the planned economy present both strong and weak forms with their past conventions， accompanying the rise of Danwei community stratification， which put forward new challenges and problems for present urban community construction.
